Violence From Love
The connection between death, hate, and violence are clear observations. But the interrelation of love and violence is not as obvious. Romeo and Juliet shares a love with great passion, overpowering a person as much as hate can. However, their love was linked to violence right from the very start. For example when Tybalt found out that Romeo had crashed the feast, he wanted to kill him right at that moment; just as fast as Romeo fell in love with Juliet at first sight. From this scene forward, their love pushes them further to destruction rather than happiness. Romeo and Juliet both portray thoughts of suicide and an attitude willing to try it. Like how Romeo was making rash decisions to kill himself after being banned from Verona; and Juliet threatens to kill herself for being stuck in the situation of marrying Paris. Juliet has foreshadowed many suicidal scenes with her choice of words as well. “If all else fail, myself have power to die” (3.5.242) she states when Lord Capulet puts his foot down that Juliet must get married to Paris. Such quotes hints to the inevitable tragic conclusion. To preserve their love, Romeo and Juliet find that death is the final solution.
